In short: This is an independent consumer-information site about septic systems in Washington. We are not the Washington State Department of Health, not a county health jurisdiction, and not any other government agency. We are also not a septic contractor — we do not pump, inspect, design or install anything.

What we are not

Our name says “Washington Septic Resource,” and we quote WAC 246-272A and county health department fee schedules throughout. That could easily give the impression we are part of the regulatory system. We are not.

Not a government agency. We have no affiliation with, endorsement from, or authority delegated by the Washington State Department of Health, any local health jurisdiction, or any other public body.
Not a septic contractor. We hold no license and perform no septic work.
Not able to issue, approve or expedite anything. Permits, waivers, operational permits and inspection records all come from the health jurisdiction for your county. We can tell you which office that is; we cannot act for you.

How we make money

If you ask us for a quote, we pass your details to a licensed septic provider who serves your area, and that provider may pay us a referral fee. It costs you nothing, and it does not change what we publish. Our fee tables, rule summaries and warnings are written from agency sources and are not adjusted for any provider.

We do not sell your details to data brokers, and we do not run advertising on this site.

How our pages are sourced

Every guide names where its figures come from and when we last checked them. Where an agency publishes a fee schedule with no effective date, or a schedule that has expired, we say so on the page rather than presenting the number as current. Where we could not find a figure at all, we say that too instead of estimating one.
